Farewell Unto Rove

By Gus Tyler

There is a guy whose name is Rove
Some say that he’s the guy who drove
The Bush regime to do its deeds
It was Rove who sowed the seeds.
He really proved that he was smart
When he pushed Bush’s campaign cart
For reelection midst a war
For then Bush merely had to scream,
“You don’t change horses in mid stream.”
But then alas all things went wrong
Although our fighting men were strong
“Surge” on “surge” just didn’t work
Insurgents said “You are a jerk.”
“The time has come,” said Rove to Rove,
“When I feel I am on a stove.
“No longer can I take the heat
“I guess it’s time to change my beat
“And find myself a cooler spot
“Where others reign and Bush does not.”

Ostrich

By Gus Tyler

“The time has come,” the ostrich said
“To bury our collective head
“As deeply in the sands of rhymes
“As possible in troubled times.”

With head in sand our Prexy croaks
“I speak the truth , you stupid blokes.
“With surge on surge from here to Hell
“I am your surgeon general.”

“I know just how to operate
“The people love to hear me prate
“They know that I’m no cheap old skate
“With head in sand, they croak, “You’re great!”

The ostrich is a clever bird
With head in sand no truth is heard
From Heaven our dear George was sent
How lucky we, he’s President.

A Sonnet for July 4

By Gus Tyler

Now here’s a word for Independence Day
A day our Fathers shook the world around
The words they spoke with thunder did resound
And still inspire people to this day.

They said that when the fateful time is nigh
When people wish to break the painful chains
That have too long enslaved their brawn and brains
They want the world to know the reason why.

And so they penned a mighty document
In which they spoke of every human’s right
A worthy cause for which they said they’ll fight
And to the world this message then was sent.

They spoke these words, yes, many years ago
And many of us live to make it so!
